Here are the not-to-be-missed events that celebrate Barbera d’Asti during the springtime.
The beautiful, warm, long days at the end of spring are arriving, and with them come dozens of wine and food events that last long into the still-cool nights. We want to highlight a couple of events that are dedicated to the Lady in Red, our beloved Barbera d’Asti. From Nizza Monferrato to Agliano Terme, from San Damiano to Canelli, Barbera d’Asti will be the protagonist for the next few weekends until June. And if you aren’t able to attend these events, don’t worry—our historical wine cellars in Canelli are always open (upon reservation) to make up for a missed glass of wine.
FESTA DELLA BARBERA – Castagnole delle Lanze
On Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, with dancing, music, and artists, the streets and courtyards of Castagnole delle Lanze will fill up with the best wines of the territory. There will be numerous Barbera winemakers present and plenty of options for tasting the traditional gastronomic specialties of the area. For the complete program, visit the site www.festadellabarbera.it.
NIZZA È BARBERA 2016 – Nizza Monferrato
Friday, May 6 – Sunday, May 8. The zone of Nizza Monferrato is the cradle of Barbera d’Asti, and the historical center of the city will be the heart of this event, organized by the Regional Enoteca of Nizza in collaboration with the township, the Association of the Producers of Nizza – Barbera d’Asti, and the Pro Loco. At “Nizza è Barbera,” visitors get the chance to taste Barbera in its many hues, labels, and flavors, with the added perk of meeting the local producers. In the tasting area, visitors may buy a wine glass, which allows them to taste all the wines available. Visit www.nizzaebarbera.it for more information.
NIZZA-CANELLI CoastToCoast – Canelli, cantine Coppo
On Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, Coppo will be celebrating a fantastic double event! It will be a one-of-a-kind wine tasting dedicated to two of the most famous subzones of the Monferrato territory. On one side is “Nizza,” a subzone of Barbera that acquired its DOCG certification in 2014, thus becoming a 100% Barbera wine with particular, distinct characteristics (and the first bottles of Nizza DOCG will be coming out in 2016!). And on the other side is “Canelli,” a historic and prized subzone of Moscato d’Asti DOCG. Some of the very best winemakers will be showing their wines during this special evening. For Nizza: Cascina Garitina, Brema, Tenuta Olim Bauda, Erede di Chiappone Armando, and Michele Chiarlo. For Moscato “Canelli:” Avezza, Enrico Cerutti, Cascina Barisel, L’Armangia, and Bocchino.
Among the wines available for tasting, there will also be the Coppo labels under these two special subzones: Riserva della Famiglia Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOC “Nizza,” and Moncalvina Moscato d’Asti DOCG “Canelli.”
BARBERA DAYS – Agliano Terme
Barbera Days turns twenty years old on June 4 and 5, 2016, celebrating the best producers of Agliano Terme. As in years past, the event proposes tastings of Barbera in charming corners of the deconsecrated church of San Michele. The festival continues with a wine and food itinerary with stops throughout the historic center of the town, involving all its inhabitants. Local chefs and locales will be collaborating in the preparation of dishes that are inspired by Piedmontese tradition, with a moveable feast that showcases the traditional local specialties. And, of course, it will all be accompanied with a glass of Barbera d’Asti. Find all event information on www.barbera-agliano.com.
